Statistical Geneticist

Alec McKinlay, PhD

Alec joined 5 Prime Sciences from the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University of Bristol, where he completed his PhD on a Cancer Research UK studentship. His doctoral research explored the associations between human genetics and the gut microbiome, and their downstream implications for applied genetic epidemiology. During his PhD, he held visiting researcher and internship positions in both academia and industry, including a placement in AstraZeneca's Machine Learning and Data Science Oncology unit.

At 5 Prime Sciences, Alec develops and tests novel analytical methods and supports client programs focused on target evaluation and biological risk reduction, strengthening the team's ability to generate rigorous, decision-grade genetic evidence anchored in human biology.
